WordPress announced on Tuesday that it has formed a dedicated AI team to oversee the development of AI products within its developer community. This new team aims to organize and support AI efforts in the WordPress ecosystem.
The team includes James LePage, leader of AI at Automattic (WordPress’ parent company), along with Felix Arntz and Pascal Birchler from Google, and Jeff Paul, Director of Open Source at the web design firm 10up.
As one of the most popular platforms for building websites, WordPress has seen many developers in its open-source community experimenting with AI tools. The creation of this formal team shows WordPress’ commitment to actively managing and guiding AI development.
WordPress executive director Mary Hubbard emphasized the importance of a unified team, saying it will help avoid fragmentation and align AI projects with WordPress’ long-term goals.
Currently, WordPress developers have created 660 different AI plug-ins, including AI-powered template builders, SEO optimization tools, and chatbots.
