Windows 11 Coming to Meta Quest Headsets

Microsoft announced plans to bring Windows 11 to Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets. The public preview launches this December, marking a major step in virtual computing.

Users will be able to connect to their local Windows PC or access Windows through cloud services like Windows 365. Microsoft promises the setup process will take just seconds.

The virtual experience aims to mirror a high-end workstation with multiple monitors. Users will work in a private, customizable space while wearing their Quest headset.

A key feature called Volumetric Apps will let programs extend into 3D space. Users can interact with 3D objects using hand gestures, as shown in a demo featuring an Xbox controller.

Microsoft is opening this technology to developers. They can access an API to create plugins for both new and existing Windows desktop apps in 3D.

This move builds on earlier partnerships between Microsoft and Meta. The companies previously brought Microsoft 365 apps and Xbox Cloud Gaming to Quest devices.

Developers interested in creating 3D Windows applications can now sign up for API access through Microsoft’s platform.
