Vivo is preparing to challenge Apple’s Vision Pro headset by launching its own mixed reality (MR) device next year.

Despite Vision Pro’s disappointing sales, Vivo is making a bold move into the MR space, with plans to unveil a prototype in September or October 2025. The company aims to offer features that could rival or surpass Apple’s headset.

Vivo’s Strategy to Disrupt the Market

Although Apple’s Vision Pro will have been available for over a year and a half by the time Vivo’s MR headset debuts, the competition could still be intense.

Vivo’s strategy lies in offering advanced capabilities at a more accessible price point, which could attract a broader consumer base that Apple has struggled to engage.

Vivo has significantly increased its investment in MR development, growing its dedicated team to 500 members. This expansion reflects the company’s commitment to making a strong impact in the market.

The company is focusing on delivering a similar or even superior experience to Vision Pro, but at a more affordable price.

    Prototype and Commercial Launch Plans

Vivo plans to showcase high-fidelity prototypes in several cities across China by late 2025. However, the commercial launch date remains uncertain, as the company is waiting for the development of a supporting content ecosystem.

This ecosystem is seen as crucial for the success of MR devices, as the experience will depend on the availability of relevant and engaging content.

    Vivo’s Market Potential

Vivo’s entry into the MR market could shake up the industry, positioning the company as a serious competitor to Apple.

With a focus on innovation and affordability, Vivo’s MR headset has the potential to offer consumers an attractive alternative to the Vision Pro, possibly redefining the mixed reality landscape.
