Ubisoft’s XDefiant to Shut Down, Refunds Issued to Players

Ubisoft has announced the shutdown of its free-to-play shooter XDefiant, just months after its official launch in May 2024.

The game, which had over 10 million players within its first two weeks, will stop accepting new players as of December 3, 2024, and its servers will shut down completely by June 2025.

While XDefiant saw strong initial interest, player numbers quickly dwindled, with concurrent players falling below 20,000.

Ubisoft will refund those who purchased the Ultimate Founders Pack or made recent in-game purchases, including VC and DLC. The game will remain accessible for players who joined before December 3, with all features continuing until June 2025.

The shutdown will also result in job losses, with Ubisoft closing production studios in San Francisco, Osaka, and Sydney, affecting a total of 277 employees.
