Like a Dragon — Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is bringing back the classic Sega arcade game The Ocean Hunter in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, marking the game’s first-ever release on consoles.

This new spin-off, set to launch on February 21, 2025, is part of the Yakuza series and introduces exciting new minigames, including the revival of The Ocean Hunter.

The Ocean Hunter, originally released in 1998, is an on-rails shooter where players battle giant sea creatures like great white sharks. The game was a popular attraction in arcades but has never been available on consoles—until now.

The development team at RGG Studio faced significant challenges in bringing it to Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, including visiting arcades to study the original game and ensure a faithful adaptation.

A Fresh Twist in the Yakuza Universe

Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is a sequel to Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and follows the character Majima, who wakes up with amnesia and becomes a pirate in Hawaii.

The game introduces ship combat, similar to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, and features the return of popular character Taiga Saejima.

The story will take about 15 to 18 hours to complete, offering a longer experience than the previous Yakuza spin-off, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

Exciting Extras and Rewards

Fans of the series will also be able to dress Majima in the iconic outfit of longtime protagonist Kiryu Kazuma, but only if they sign up for email notifications.

The game’s release is highly anticipated, as it blends classic Yakuza features with new content and nostalgic arcade moments.
