Fans of Robert Pattinson and Robert Downey Jr. were nearly treated to an unforgettable collaboration when the two actors were set to star in a satirical dark comedy for Netflix, directed by Adam McKay.
The film, titled Average Height, Average Build, would have seen Pattinson play a serial killer-turned-politician, while Downey Jr. would have played a determined detective on his trail. The film’s star-studded cast also included Amy Adams, Forest Whitaker, and Danielle Deadwyler.
The concept was promising, blending crime, satire, and political commentary with McKay’s signature style. McKay, who had already collaborated with Netflix for Don’t Look Up, was poised to make Average Height, Average Build a potential contender for Best Picture nominations.
However, despite the initial excitement and Netflix’s hefty investment in the project, the film was ultimately scrapped after seven months.
Reports suggest that McKay shifted focus to a new film centered around the climate crisis, and Netflix, without McKay’s involvement, chose not to move forward with Average Height, Average Build. For fans of Pattinson and Downey Jr., this was a disappointing turn of events, as the film had the potential to be a major draw.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that this movie will be revived anytime soon. Pattinson is set to return as Batman in an upcoming sequel, and Downey Jr. is gearing up for major roles in the MCU, including Avengers: Secret Wars.
Netflix’s shift toward more cost-conscious film projects further complicates any hope for the revival of Average Height, Average Build.
While it’s a bummer that this ambitious project never came to life, fans of Pattinson and Downey Jr. have plenty to look forward to, with exciting films and series lined up for both actors in the near future.
