The Division 3 Takes Center Stage as Ubisoft Cuts Jobs in Sweden

Ubisoft is laying off employees at its Swedish studios, Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm, as part of a cost-cutting and restructuring plan. The move could affect around 55 roles.

The company said the layoffs are “forward-looking and structural” and not related to employee performance or recent work. The decision follows a Voluntary Leave Program that began in fall 2025.

Massive Entertainment, known for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws, will now focus on The Division franchise. The studio is currently developing The Division 3 and a new survival mode for The Division 2, called Survivors, due in 2026.

Ubisoft said the restructuring allows the studios to have clearer visibility of staffing needs and support long-term projects sustainably. The company also confirmed work will continue on an unannounced tech project, as well as Snowdrop and Ubisoft Connect.

This round of layoffs comes a week after Ubisoft shut down its Halifax studio, cutting 71 jobs. In October 2025, Ubisoft launched Tencent-backed Vantage Studios to oversee its biggest franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.

The company emphasized that despite the layoffs, its long-term direction for Massive and Ubisoft Stockholm remains unchanged, with The Division franchise as the primary focus.

Ubisoft’s restructuring reflects its effort to streamline operations and concentrate resources on core, high-performing franchises while preparing for upcoming releases.
