Chinese tech giant Tencent has launched its new Hunyuan Turbo S AI model, claiming it can answer queries faster than the widely popular DeepSeek-R1.

The announcement marks Tencent’s latest attempt to compete in the rapidly evolving AI market.

Faster and Smarter Responses

Tencent says that Hunyuan Turbo S can respond to queries within one second, setting it apart from DeepSeek R1 and other models that take longer to process information.

The company also claims the model performs on par with DeepSeek-V3 in areas like knowledge, math, and reasoning.

Competitive Pricing

One standout feature of the Hunyuan Turbo S is its lower usage cost compared to previous Tencent AI models.

The pricing shift follows DeepSeek’s open-source strategy and affordable services, which have pressured major Chinese AI companies to reduce their prices.

China’s Growing AI Race

The rise of DeepSeek’s AI models has sparked fierce competition among Chinese tech companies. Last month, Alibaba released the Qwen 2.5-Max model, claiming it outperforms DeepSeek-V3 in various tasks.

Now, Tencent’s Hunyuan Turbo S adds another contender to the growing list of AI chatbots challenging global leaders like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

With AI becoming a key battleground for tech giants, Tencent’s Hunyuan Turbo S could help the company maintain its position in the competitive Chinese market. However, only time will tell if it can truly surpass DeepSeek and gain global recognition.
