    T-Mobile Customers Discover T-Life App Automatically Records Screen Activity

    Many T-Mobile customers are just now discovering that the carrier’s T-Life app includes a screen recording tool enabled by default. This feature records everything happening on your screen while you use the app.

    The T-Life app is essentially mandatory for T-Mobile users, as it’s required even for in-store transactions. Some users have already expressed frustration over the app’s bugs and the presence of ads. Now, the discovery of this screen recording feature has added another concern.

    T-Mobile says the screen recording is used to analyze how customers interact with the app to improve the experience. However, the feature is turned on automatically without explicit user permission. While users can opt out by toggling it off in the app settings, many feel this should have been opt-in from the start.

    The recording only happens while the T-Life app is in use, and it does not capture activity outside the app. T-Mobile reportedly uses the recordings mainly to assist customers with upgrades and other processes during store visits. Customer service representatives can see what users see to provide help more effectively.

    Some users have noted that shaking the phone while using the app triggers a screenshot to be sent to T-Mobile as a feedback tool for reporting errors. This feature reportedly helps the company quickly fix bugs or loading issues.

    Although the feature is intended to improve customer support and the app’s functionality, the lack of upfront notification has led to privacy concerns among users. Many believe T-Mobile should have clearly informed customers and required permission before enabling screen recording by default.

    T-Mobile has been contacted for comment, and further updates will be shared when available.

    For now, T-Mobile users who want to protect their privacy can disable the screen recording tool manually in the T-Life app settings.
