Steam Adds New Option for Managing Game Updates

Steam

Valve is rolling out a new default option in the Steam client beta, allowing users to control when game updates are downloaded.

Instead of Steam automatically downloading updates for recently played games or bundling updates for older games, users can now set updates to only download when they launch the game.

This feature is particularly helpful for those with bandwidth caps, as it lets them delay massive updates until they’re ready to play.

The setting can be found under the Downloads section of the Steam beta client, where users can choose to let Steam decide when to update or wait until the game is launched.

Additionally, users can still manage per-game settings, with descriptions cleaned up for better clarity.
