Starlink Service on Your Phone: Everything You Need to Know

T-Mobile, SpaceX, and Starlink are teaming up to bring satellite-to-cell service to your phone.

This new service allows users to send and receive text messages, even in areas with no cellular coverage, by connecting directly to Starlink satellites.

    What is T-Mobile’s Starlink Service?

The service leverages Starlink’s satellite network to provide coverage in remote regions, where cell towers don’t reach.

T-Mobile’s partnership with Starlink aims to eliminate dead zones, providing coverage in areas like national parks or remote locations where traditional service fails.

This allows your phone to connect to the nearest Starlink satellite, acting as a floating cell tower.

    How Does It Work?

T-Mobile customers with optimized phones can send and receive text messages for free via Starlink, even in areas with no service.

Emergency text messages to 911 will also work. T-Mobile plans to expand the service to include picture messaging, voice calls, and data access in the future.

    Who Can Access the Service?

Currently, T-Mobile customers who own optimized phones (like the Galaxy S24 Ultra, iPhone 16, and Pixel 9) can join the beta.

However, AT&T and Verizon customers can also try the service for free during the beta period. You must also have the latest software update on your phone to use the service.

How to Join the Beta Program?

To join the beta, T-Mobile users can sign up on the Starlink service website with their phone number and email.

The program is currently invite-only, and slots are limited. Those who sign up will be added to a waitlist and notified when accepted.

    What’s the Cost After Beta?

The service is free during the beta, but once it ends in July, T-Mobile customers on the Go5G Next plan will continue to enjoy it for free.

For others, it will cost $15 per month. Verizon and AT&T customers will pay $20 per month once the service officially launches.
