Spotify Launches Offline Backup Feature

Spotify has introduced a new Offline Backup feature for Premium users that automatically creates a playlist when the app detects a loss of internet connection.

This playlist compiles recently streamed and queued tracks already downloaded and cached on the device.

Key Features:

  • Automatic Playlist Creation: The Offline Backup playlist appears in the home feed when offline, provided the user has enabled offline listening and has recently played at least five songs.
  • Customization Options: Users can filter the playlist by artist, mood, and genre. The playlist adapts over time based on listening habits.
  • Permanent Addition: Users can choose to permanently add the Offline Backup playlist to their library if they enjoy the selection.

This feature aims to enhance the listening experience during situations like flights or areas with poor connectivity, similar to offerings from other streaming services.
