Samsung is set to showcase its innovative ALoP Telephoto camera at CES 2025, with rumors suggesting it will debut in the upcoming Galaxy S25 Slim.
The company recently released an interview with Younggyu Jeong (Task Leader) and Minook Kim (Staff Engineer) from its semiconductor division, shedding light on the groundbreaking technology behind ALoP.
ALoP, which stands for “All Lenses on Prism,” is a new folded zoom structure designed to enhance smartphone telephoto cameras.
Unlike conventional telephoto systems, ALoP places the lenses directly on top of the prism, reducing the size of the camera module while improving brightness. This allows for better image capture, especially in low-light conditions.
The telephoto camera’s role in smartphones has become increasingly important as wide-angle sensors reach their limits. With high zoom capabilities and portrait features, telephoto cameras help compress backgrounds and create beautiful blur effects.
However, they often require long focal lengths, leading to larger and bulkier modules. ALoP solves this problem by positioning lenses horizontally, allowing for more light capture and clearer, brighter images.
Key Features of ALoP:
Samsung’s collaboration with Corephotonics, a leader in optical technology, was crucial to overcoming challenges during development, such as component designs and autofocus methods.
Looking ahead, Samsung envisions smartphone cameras closing the gap with DSLR cameras, with innovations in zoom magnification, module size reduction, and image quality.
The ALoP Telephoto camera will be unveiled at the Las Vegas Convention Center during CES 2025, from January 7 to 10, where more details will be revealed.
