A Rockstar Games developer recently voiced frustration over being harassed online by impatient Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) fans.
On December 22, 2024, an illustrator from the studio, known as Nicky (X/@s1nick), shared their concerns about receiving numerous direct messages about the highly anticipated game.
“Can people stop DM-ing me about GTA 6? I only work there. I literally do not have any information,” they tweeted.
The situation escalated when Nicky revealed that some fans even sent threats demanding the release of the second GTA 6 trailer. This behavior has drawn criticism from the gaming community, with many urging fans to respect developers’ boundaries.
Ben (X/@videotechuk_), a prominent GTA fan, defended the developers, stating:
“They have no affiliation to marketing the games, they’re just devs cooking the game. Just leave them alone.”
Another user, The Budgie (X/@TheBudgiteer), reminded fans that not all Rockstar employees are working on GTA 6, as the studio continues to support Grand Theft Auto Online.
Speculation about the second trailer’s release date gained traction after Rockstar distributed GTA 6-themed merchandise to employees. Some fans interpreted the items as containing hidden clues, fueling the theory that the trailer might drop on December 27, 2024.
Popular YouTuber TGG (X/@TGGonYT) criticized the toxic behavior, stating:
“Guys, you realize this is just a video game, right? DO NOT take action in REAL LIFE over a VIDEO GAME theory.”
The excitement surrounding GTA 6 is so intense that even competing game publishers are reportedly delaying their release schedules.
Gaming journalist Jason Schreier noted that publishers are waiting to finalize their fall 2025 plans to avoid clashing with GTA 6’s launch.
The anticipation for GTA 6 continues to grow, but the gaming community is being reminded to remain respectful and patient.
Developers are working hard to deliver a game that meets the high expectations of fans worldwide.
