In an exciting new development, NVIDIA and MediaTek are reportedly exploring a collaboration to create a high-performance AI smartphone chip.

This partnership, which has been the subject of speculation for some time, is now rumored to extend beyond the PC market, where the two companies have already set their sights on creating an AI-centric PC SoC.

While details are still scarce, this move signals NVIDIA’s ambition to capture a larger share of the custom ASIC chip market, particularly in the mobile space.

Expanding Beyond PCs to Mobile Markets

NVIDIA has already made a name for itself in the custom chip segment, and with MediaTek’s expertise in custom chips and NVIDIA’s prowess in GPU technology, this partnership could disrupt the mobile market.

While Samsung’s Exynos chips have struggled to compete at the highest level, leaving Qualcomm and MediaTek as the primary players, an AI smartphone chip developed by NVIDIA and MediaTek could change the game.

The rumored chip is expected to leverage NVIDIA’s extensive experience in high-performance graphical computation, bringing powerful AI capabilities to smartphones.

The companies may also tap into TSMC’s 3nm process and ARM architecture, which are expected to give the chip a significant edge in terms of raw performance and efficiency.

The AI PC SoC: A Focus on Performance

Before the AI smartphone chip, NVIDIA and MediaTek are planning to introduce an AI PC SoC by H2 2025, which will target performance gaps in the PC market.

This custom chip will likely compete with the likes of Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm’s existing SoCs, bringing AI capabilities into the PC space. The chip will likely harness NVIDIA’s power in GPU cores, while MediaTek offers its custom solutions to drive high-performance outputs.

The Road Ahead: A New Era for Custom Chips

While the details of the AI smartphone chip are still unclear, this partnership could set the stage for a transformative shift in both the PC and mobile chip markets.

By entering the custom ASIC chip segment, NVIDIA and MediaTek could open new business opportunities, positioning themselves as strong contenders in a competitive landscape.

Their ability to deliver tailored chip solutions for various industries could prove to be a major factor in their future success.

In the coming months, we can expect more updates on the AI smartphone chip and the AI PC SoC, which could redefine the performance capabilities of both mobile devices and PCs.
