No New Game? PlayStation’s Resident Evil Project Is Just Another Movie

A new Resident Evil project is in the works with PlayStation Productions involved, but it’s not a new game.

Instead, PlayStation is co-producing a Resident Evil movie, disappointing fans who were hoping for something bigger.

A New Movie, Not a New Game

According to The Hollywood Reporter, PlayStation Productions is working with Constantin Film, the longtime rights holder of the Resident Evil movies, to reboot the franchise once again. Zach Cregger, writer and director of the horror film Barbarian, is set to direct.

This news comes after the 2021 film “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” failed to impress audiences. While this new movie promises to be more faithful to the original games, many fans remain skeptical.

PlayStation Won’t Be Involved in the Games

Despite this collaboration, PlayStation will not be working on any Resident Evil games. Capcom will continue to develop the franchise on its own, leaving Sony’s role in the series unchanged.

Why Fans Aren’t Excited

Resident Evil games are known for their tense atmosphere, survival horror elements, and engaging gameplay—things that are difficult to translate into a movie.

The franchise’s storytelling and character consistency have always been weak points, making adaptations even harder to pull off.

While it’s possible that this new movie could be a decent horror film, many believe it won’t truly capture the essence of Resident Evil.

For now, fans hoping for a new PlayStation-exclusive Resident Evil game will have to wait.
