Musk Calls F-35 Obsolete, Says Drones Can’t Replace Crewed Aircraft Yet

Elon Musk has criticized the F-35 fighter jet, calling it outdated and inefficient in today’s drone-powered warfare. In a series of social media posts, Musk argued that human-piloted jets are “obsolete” and that drones are the future of combat.

He even suggested that continued production of the F-35 is “idiotic” and could endanger pilots in a world where drones and counter-air technology are becoming more advanced.

Musk’s views align with other tech leaders like former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, who recently described tanks as “useless” and urged the military to switch to drones.

Despite this push, many experts and former military officials argue that drones still cannot fully replace crewed fighter jets, especially in situations where the high-end capabilities of jets like the F-35 are necessary.

Drones are transforming modern warfare, providing new ways to conduct reconnaissance, targeting, and strikes, but they still face limitations. For example, drones lack the range, payload, and survivability of larger aircraft.

Analysts say that while drones are useful for certain tasks, they cannot match the F-35’s capabilities in areas like electronic warfare and long-range combat.

The U.S. military is also exploring semi-autonomous and AI-driven aircraft, but the technology is still in development. Experts suggest that combining both crewed jets and drones could provide the most effective solution, as drones complement the flexibility and decision-making ability of human pilots.

In conclusion, while drones are changing the landscape of war, many believe that a mix of crewed and uncrewed systems will be the most effective approach for the future.
