Moana 2, the highly anticipated Disney sequel, made a record-breaking debut at the box office with a massive $221 million for the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, including $135.3 million for the three-day weekend.

This marks the biggest 5-day debut ever, surpassing previous top earners like The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The movie, which follows Moana’s new adventure with the demigod Maui, continued Disney’s trend of record-breaking animated films, earning $386.3 million globally.

It also had the biggest Thanksgiving opening of all time, setting records for opening day, Black Friday, and Thanksgiving Day grosses.

Overseas, Moana 2 saw stellar numbers, including the largest animated opening in France. The sequel follows Moana as she receives a call from her ancestors, with Maui making his return.

Disney’s success with the film demonstrates the enduring popularity of the Moana franchise.
