Meta Platforms is discussing plans to build a massive new data center campus for its artificial intelligence projects, according to a report from The Information. The project could cost more than $200 billion.

The report claims Meta executives have told data center developers they are considering building in Louisiana, Wyoming or Texas. Senior leaders reportedly visited potential sites this month.

A Meta spokesperson denied the report, calling it “pure speculation.” The company said its data center plans and capital expenditures have already been disclosed publicly.

Last month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced plans to spend up to $65 billion this year to expand the company’s AI infrastructure.

Other tech giants are also making huge investments in AI. Microsoft plans to invest about $80 billion in fiscal 2025 for data centers, while Amazon expects to spend more than $75 billion in 2025.

The surge in AI investment began after Microsoft-backed OpenAI launched ChatGPT in 2022, leading companies across many industries to incorporate artificial intelligence into their products and services.
