Matter Certification Now Accepted by Apple, Google, and Samsung

Apple, Google, and Samsung will soon accept Matter certification for their “Works With” smart home programs, making it easier for manufacturers to certify their products.

Matter, a standard meant to unify smart home ecosystems, was expected to eliminate the need for multiple “Works With” badges, but this hasn’t happened yet. Now, a new Matter badge will join the existing ones.

The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), which oversees Matter, announced that Apple will begin accepting Matter test results for its “Works With Apple Home” program, while Google and Samsung will do the same for their “Works With Google Home” and “Works With SmartThings” certifications later this year.

This means manufacturers will no longer need to go through separate tests for each platform. Instead, they can get certified by Matter and use the results to earn the other badges.

While this simplifies the process for device makers, Amazon has not yet joined the initiative for its Alexa platform.

The CSA also introduced new programs to help companies with certification, making it less costly and more efficient.
