Christopher Nolan is bringing one of the greatest stories ever told to the big screen. His upcoming epic, The Odyssey, will see Matt Damon take on the role of Odysseus, the legendary Greek hero known for his long and perilous journey home after the Trojan War.
A Star-Studded Cast for Nolan’s Next Epic
Damon’s casting was officially revealed through the film’s social media, along with a first-look image of him in character.
Joining him is an all-star ensemble featuring Tom Holland, Mia Goth, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo.
Nolan, known for his ambitious storytelling and groundbreaking cinematography, has penned the script and will direct and produce the film, alongside longtime collaborator Emma Thomas. Universal Pictures, which distributed Oppenheimer, is backing the project.
A Cinematic Journey Through Ancient Greece
Based on Homer’s timeless epic, The Odyssey will follow Odysseus’ mythic struggle to return home after the fall of Troy, encountering gods, monsters, and treacherous obstacles along the way.
Universal has described the film as a “mythic action epic” shot with new IMAX film technology, marking the first time Homer’s saga will be brought to IMAX screens.
Filming to Begin in Sicily
Production is set to start this spring, with key locations in Sicily, including the island of Favignana—believed to have inspired Odysseus’ journey in the original tale.
Nolan and Damon: A Powerful Collaboration
This marks the third collaboration between Nolan and Damon, following Interstellar and Oppenheimer.
With Nolan’s visionary approach and a stacked cast, The Odyssey is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of 2026.
