Warner Bros. has adjusted its movie release schedule, affecting several highly anticipated films. One of the biggest changes is the delay of Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, “One Battle After Another,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Originally set for August 8, the film will now be released on September 26, 2025.
The movie, described as an American crime thriller, remains mostly under wraps. Sources say the delay is partly due to Warner Bros. upgrading theaters with VistaVision projection systems to match the director’s vision.
The shift also positions the film closer to awards season, increasing its chances of recognition. Alongside DiCaprio, the film features Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor.
Another major change is the delay of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s film “The Bride!”. Originally scheduled for September 2025, the movie will now release on March 6, 2026.
Starring Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, this steampunk-inspired Frankenstein adaptation now avoids competition with Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming “Frankenstein” film, set to premiere on Netflix this November.
Warner Bros. has also moved up Zach Cregger’s horror film “Weapons.” Originally slated for January 2026, the movie will now be released earlier on August 8, 2025.
The decision suggests strong confidence in the film, which will be previewed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas later this month. The film stars Josh Brolin and Julia Garner.
Meanwhile, the mysterious film “Flowervale Street,” starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, has been pushed from March 2026 to August 14, 2026. Directed by David Robert Mitchell and produced by J.J. Abrams, the film is set in the 1980s and follows a family experiencing strange events in their quiet neighborhood.
In animated films, Warner Bros. has also changed the release date of “The Cat in the Hat”. Originally set for a mid-March release, the film will now hit theaters on February 27, 2025.
Featuring the voices of Bill Hader and Quinta Brunson, this adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ classic will now avoid competition with Pixar’s “Hoppers,” releasing a week later.
With these changes, Warner Bros. is reshaping its 2025 and 2026 film lineup, making strategic moves to optimize box office success. Fans will have to wait a bit longer for some films, but these shifts could help them find the best possible audience.
