After announcing his retirement following Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Jim Carrey surprised fans by returning for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Now, he has hinted that he could return for Sonic the Hedgehog 4, leaving the door open for another adventure as Dr. Robotnik.
In an interview with Japanese YouTube channel Cinema Today, Carrey addressed his retirement claims, stating, โInstead of retiring, Iโve decided to power rest between projects.โ
He expressed his love for the character of Dr. Robotnik and his appreciation for the evolving role. Carrey also mentioned that thereโs always a new challenge in playing the villain, which keeps him engaged.
When asked about Sonic 4, Carrey said, โIโm definitely open,โ explaining that if the next project sounds fun, heโs willing to take part. He emphasized that heโs not locked into anything unless it piques his interest.
Carrey also praised the Sonic film crew and the passionate fanbase, noting the great energy and positive feedback surrounding the franchise.
With Sonic 4 already greenlit by Paramount Pictures, it seems Carreyโs return is very much a possibility if the script excites him.
