Jennie, the Blackpink star, is embracing new challenges as she works on her debut solo album and manages her independent label, OddAtelier.

The 28-year-old artist has been balancing her solo ambitions with Blackpink’s global fame, preparing for the group’s upcoming reunion while shaping her individual creative identity.

Jennie’s solo project, which began in early 2024, is a deeply personal journey. Despite her success with Blackpink, including groundbreaking performances at Coachella and chart-topping albums, Jennie felt the need to explore her own artistic voice.

She launched OddAtelier in December 2023 and partnered with Columbia Records to ensure creative freedom.

The lead single, “Mantra,” released in October 2024, showcased her blend of pop, rap, and dance, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart.

Jennie described the process as challenging but rewarding, noting how her time in Los Angeles helped her grow. “I wanted to throw myself out there to experience something new,” she said.

    A New Chapter for Jennie

Jennie’s solo work represents a break from her carefully managed career as a YG Entertainment trainee and Blackpink member.

While she credits her time at YG for her discipline, she acknowledges the pressure of being in full control of her music now.

Recording in Los Angeles allowed Jennie to collaborate with a variety of producers, including El Guincho and Claudia Valentina.

This process wasn’t without hurdles, as she spent months finding the right creative team. However, Jennie’s persistence paid off, with “Mantra” signaling the start of her solo career.

    Balancing Blackpink and Solo Dreams

Despite her solo focus, Jennie remains committed to Blackpink. She re-signed with YG Entertainment for group activities, ensuring her involvement in the band’s future.

However, she’s clear about prioritizing her personal goals, saying, “I wanted to satisfy myself by achieving the dream of releasing a solo album.”

Jennie’s journey reflects her ambition and determination to balance global stardom with personal growth. As she prepares for her solo debut at Coachella in April, fans eagerly await what’s next for this multifaceted artist.
