The international box office continues to thrive this holiday season, with Paramount’s Sonic The Hedgehog 3 leading the way. The movie opened in 52 markets last week, grossing $74 million and pushing its global total to $211.5 million.
The overseas debut marks the biggest international start for the Sonic franchise, surpassing Sonic 2 by 83%. Key markets such as the UK, Mexico, and France contributed significantly to the strong performance.
Despite a slight dip in projections last weekend, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King showed impressive staying power.
The film saw a modest 8% drop in its second international weekend, bringing in $77.1 million, raising its international total to $214.5 million and its global tally to $328 million. France, the UK, and Mexico remain the top markets for the film, and the IMAX total stands at $23 million.
Meanwhile, Moana 2 is on the brink of hitting the $900 million mark globally, with $36.1 million added from international markets this weekend.
The film now stands at $487.9 million internationally and $882.5 million globally. Europe, especially countries like France and the UK, saw solid increases, helping push the film closer to the $1 billion milestone.
In other international highlights, Korea’s Harbin has grossed $15.5 million since its December 24 release, and India’s Pushpa 2 has earned $153 million domestically, becoming the second-biggest local film ever.
Other notable films include Kraven the Hunter, which has made $31.2 million internationally, and Nosferatu, with $43.3 million globally.
