Hume AI has announced a collaboration with Anthropic to integrate its Empathic Voice Interface (EVI) with Claude AI models, aiming to create more emotionally intelligent voice interactions.

The new EVI 2 system can understand and respond to emotional nuances in human speech, offering capabilities beyond current AI voice assistants.

The technology has already facilitated over 2 million minutes of voice AI conversations, showing promising real-world application.

Key features of the system include:

  • Voice-to-voice model architecture for fluid conversations
  • Ability to understand and generate different tones of voice
  • Capability to emulate various personalities and accents
  • Integration with Claude 3.5 Sonnet for enhanced reasoning

The partnership has yielded significant efficiency improvements, with Anthropic’s prompt caching delivering an 80% cost reduction and 10% decrease in response latency.

This has made the system particularly attractive to developers, with over a third preferring Claude to other external language models.

The system analyzes multiple aspects of speech including tone, rhythm, and timbre to produce appropriate and empathetic responses, marking a significant advancement in making AI interactions feel more natural and human-like.
