At CES 2025, HMD is launching a new gadget, the OffGrid, which is set to become a must-have for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers.

This small device adds satellite connectivity to virtually any smartphone, enabling users to stay connected even when they’re out of range of cellular service.

Once paired with your Android or iPhone and the OffGrid app, the device allows you to send two-way messages, share your live location with up to five recipients, and send SOS emergency services requests.

The OffGrid can be a lifesaver in situations where cell service is unavailable, such as during road trips, hiking, or mountain climbing.

The OffGrid is compact, weighing just 60 grams and measuring 94mm x 60mm x 12mm. It features IP68 water resistance and MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability, ensuring it can withstand tough conditions.

With a battery life of up to three days, it’s designed to be a reliable companion for extended trips.

For emergency situations, HMD has partnered with Overwatch x Rescue, offering 24/7 multilingual search and rescue services. This adds an extra layer of peace of mind for those venturing into remote areas.

The HMD OffGrid is priced at $199 and comes with two subscription options: HMD Freedom and HMD Unlimited, which offer varying levels of service, including unlimited text messages and live tracking.

If you frequently find yourself in areas without reliable cell service, the OffGrid could be a vital tool to ensure you’re never out of touch.
