A prominent gaming insider has cast doubt on the much-anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025.
Jason Schreier, a Bloomberg reporter and trusted source in the gaming industry, shared his thoughts on the possibility of a delay during an appearance on Kinda Funny Games Daily on December 10.
Schreier stated he would be “shocked” if the game hits its planned Fall 2025 release date and predicts that GTA 6 may slip to 2026 instead.
Schreier highlighted Rockstar Games’ history of delays, pointing to the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2, which was initially scheduled for 2017 but ultimately released in 2018 after multiple delays. He believes that GTA 6 will likely follow the same pattern.
“Games are even more complicated now, with more moving parts,” Schreier explained, suggesting that a further delay would not be surprising given the game’s ambitious scale.
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has previously confirmed that the target release window for GTA 6 is Fall 2025. Despite this, Schreier remains skeptical, given that Rockstar has a history of pushing back release dates.
While Take-Two has said the game is “on track” for 2025, Schreier remains cautious, pointing out that GTA 6 has already missed several deadlines in the past.
The development of GTA 6 has been a decade-long journey, and fans have eagerly awaited updates on the game’s progress.
Many were holding onto the hope that 2025 would finally be the year they get to play the next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto series. However, Schreier’s comments suggest that fans may need to wait even longer for the highly anticipated release.
With GTA 5 continuing to generate substantial revenue, Rockstar Games has no immediate pressure to rush the release of GTA 6.
If the game needs more time to meet Rockstar’s high standards, a delay to Spring 2026 or beyond seems likely, and fans may need to prepare for a longer wait.
