A new controversy is brewing over the pricing of Grand Theft Auto VI, set to release on November 19, 2026. Industry insider Tom Henderson asked whether fans would pay $100 for a “Premium Edition” offering seven days of early access, above the standard $80 edition.

The response from gamers was overwhelmingly negative. Most players called the concept a “FOMO-driven scam”, while only a small number of hardcore fans said they might pay for exclusive cars, properties, or in-game assets.

Fans argue that charging extra for early access on a narrative-driven game is essentially a “spoiler tax”, especially after 13 years since the release of GTA V. Many point out that Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have already earned record profits from GTA Online.

Industry analysts confirm that the base game is expected to cost $80, a $10 increase over the current AAA standard. The hypothetical $100 tier has sparked debates over fairness and the growing trend of monetizing early access in single-player games.

Currently, Rockstar Games has not confirmed any early access or premium edition plans. Historically, the studio has avoided early access models for single-player releases, though the success of GTA Online has led fans to speculate about potential new monetization strategies.

The debate highlights a larger question: how far are gamers willing to go for early access and exclusive content? With the hype around GTA 6, many see the $100 tier as a potential industry precedent, setting a pricing standard for AAA games in the coming years.
