Ahead of the highly anticipated GTA 6 release, Rockstar Games is set to deliver a free upgrade for GTA 5 on PC on March 4, bringing features that were previously exclusive to the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions.

What’s New in the Upgrade?

This new update will add several exciting GTA Online features, including:

  • Hao’s Special Works upgrades, including new vehicles and performance enhancements
  • Animal encounters and GTA+ Membership access
  • Enhanced graphics with ray-tracing support, including ray-traced shadows and reflections
  • Improved loading times, DualSense Wireless Controller support, and more

Technical Enhancements

Along with performance improvements, the update will introduce cutting-edge graphics features such as:

  • Ambient occlusion
  • Global illumination
  • Nvidia DLSS 3 and AMD FSR support
  • Ray-tracing effects for a more immersive experience

Updated PC Specifications

To accommodate these new features, the minimum and recommended specifications for GTA 5 on PC have been updated.

Players will need Windows 10 (or 11), 16GB RAM, and a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (or equivalent) to run the upgraded version smoothly.

The game will require at least 105GB of storage with an SSD and support for DirectStorage for faster load times.

Online Compatibility and Future Plans

The update will also allow players to migrate their progress in Story Mode and GTA Online.

However, players on the previous version of GTA 5 will not be able to join online sessions with those using the new upgrade.

This update marks a major step for GTA 5 players ahead of the GTA 6 release later this year, though the new title will not hit PC until early 2026.
