Google Working on Song Search History Feature for Android

Google’s Android app is set to enhance its song search tool with a new feature that will allow users to track their previous song searches.

Currently, when you use the sound search feature in the app—where Google listens to a song and presents you with possible matches—your search is temporary, with no history available for future reference.

However, a recent teardown of the Google app’s beta build (16.5.33.sa.arm64) suggests that the company is working on adding a search history feature for the sound search tool.

This would allow users to revisit past song searches, much like the “Now Playing” feature that already provides a history of recognized songs.

    What We’ve Found So Far

Inside the beta build, there are references to new elements such as “soundsearch_history_item” and other associated text strings, suggesting that Google is laying the groundwork for this feature.

While the functionality is still in development, some users have found an early preview screen showing a “Recent song searches” view, which seems to indicate that the history feature could be coming soon.

The interface could include basic song information like track names, artist details, album art, and timestamps. However, as of now, it appears that Google has not yet fully implemented this feature.

    Why This is Exciting

For many users, the inability to revisit previously searched songs has been a downside of the sound search tool. This new feature could make it easier for users to track songs they’ve been curious about, without needing to perform a new search each time.

While we’re still in the early stages of seeing this feature come to life, it’s clear that Google is preparing to make the song search experience much more convenient for users. Keep an eye on updates from Android Authority as more information becomes available.
