AI-generated research is flooding Google Scholar, posing risks to scientific integrity, according to researchers from the University of Borås.

Over 100 suspected AI-generated articles were found, raising concerns about the spread of fake science.

The Harvard Kennedy School Misinformation Review published the study, highlighting the threat of evidence hacking, where fake research is used to manipulate public opinion.

Björn Ekström, a researcher, warned that incorrect information could spread widely, even after articles are withdrawn.

AI-generated research also strains the peer review system, making it harder to trust online sources.

Jutta Haider stressed that Google Scholar lacks quality assurance, increasing the need for better information literacy to identify reliable research.
