Google Home hubs

Google Home hubs now offer local control for Matter devices, thanks to the integration of Home Runtime.

This update allows Google Nest hubs, speakers, Chromecasts, and some LG TVs to control Matter devices without needing an internet connection.

Benefits of Local Control

With local control, Google Assistant can manage devices like lights even when the internet is down. This change improves reliability, privacy, and reduces latency.

Developer Support

Google has also made its Home APIs available to all developers. These APIs enable easy integration of Google Home devices and automations into third-party apps.

What is Matter?
Matter is a smart home standard developed by Apple, Amazon, Google, and Samsung. It allows devices to communicate securely without relying on the cloud, working over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Thread.
