Files by Google Introduces New PDF Viewer on Android

Files by Google has launched a revamped PDF viewer for a more integrated and seamless experience, replacing the previous reliance on Google Drive.

What’s New?

• Top Bar Actions:
  • Star documents
  • Share files easily
• Enhanced Overflow Menu:
  • Open with
  • Move to trash
  • Move to / Copy to
  • Move to Safe folder
  • File info
  • Find in file
  • Print

Previously, many of these actions were only accessible outside the viewer.

Old vs. New Experience

• Old Actions: Limited to Find, Save to Drive, Send file, Download, Print, and Feedback.
• New Experience: Adds Safe folder access, detailed file info, and improved navigation.

Additional Notes

• The floating action button (FAB) gets a refreshed icon, but its functionality remains unchanged.
• The update is rolling out gradually with version 1.5687.x via a server-side push.
