Borderlands 4: Release Date, Story & Trailer

Borderlands 4 Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4 was officially announced during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event on August 20, 2024, with a teaser trailer revealing a 2025 release window.

Here’s what we know about its release date, story, and trailer.

Release Date

Borderlands 4 is set to launch sometime in 2025. While an exact date has not been confirmed, speculation suggests it could be released in the spring or summer months, as the fall is likely to be dominated by the release of Grand Theft Auto VI in Autumn 2025.

Historically, previous entries in the series were released in September or October, so a later 2025 release is also possible.

Story Details

The teaser trailer hints at a narrative that picks up after the events of Borderlands 3. Players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter exploring a new planet, continuing the franchise’s signature looter-shooter gameplay.

The trailer shows remnants of a catastrophic event involving a planet crashing through space, which leads to new adventures and treasures to discover.

Notably, the trailer features a Firehawk sigil, suggesting connections to past characters and events in the series.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has expressed that the team has ambitious plans for this installment, aiming to enhance the beloved elements of the series while introducing new features and directions.

Trailer

The official teaser trailer, released during Gamescom, is approximately one minute long and does not showcase gameplay but sets the tone for the upcoming title. It depicts a planet colliding with another celestial body, leading to a significant event that appears to affect the game’s storyline.

A mechanical hand is seen retrieving a Psycho mask, hinting at familiar elements from the franchise. The trailer does not confirm the return of the popular character Handsome Jack, despite fan speculation.

Platforms

Borderlands 4 will be available on PCPlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It is expected to be released on major digital storefronts like Steam and the Epic Games Store, but it will not be available on last-generation consoles such as the PS4 or Xbox One.
