Social media platform Bluesky has hit 15 million users, gaining about one million new users in the past week. The surge comes after the US presidential election.

Recent Bluesky updates include:

  • Video posting
  • Pinned posts
  • Custom fonts
  • New anti-toxicity features

The app is currently the most downloaded free app on Apple’s App Store, ahead of Threads, ChatGPT, and Google. Most new users are from the United States, according to Bluesky’s COO Rose Wang.

While competitor Threads has 275 million monthly users, Bluesky offers different features. It lets users create their own algorithmic feeds, unlike Threads’ single Meta-made feed. Both platforms are currently ad-free.
