BBC4 has announced a special tribute to Bob Dylan ahead of the UK release of A Complete Unknown, a biopic starring Timothée Chalamet.
The film, which explores Dylan’s transformation from folk icon to electric rock star, will debut in UK cinemas on January 17, 2025.
The celebration begins on January 10 with a series of programmes diving into Dylan’s career. The schedule kicks off at 10:20 PM GMT with Bob Dylan: No Direction Home, a Martin Scorsese documentary chronicling Dylan’s early years and rise to fame.
Following the documentary, BBC4 will air Bob Dylan: Shadow Kingdom, a concert film from 2021. Shot during the COVID-19 pandemic, the film features reimagined versions of Dylan’s deep cuts from the ’60s and ’70s.
Timothée Chalamet, who plays Dylan in A Complete Unknown, spent years preparing for the role, learning 30 Dylan songs and working with various coaches.
Dylan himself praised Chalamet, calling him a “brilliant actor” and saying the film is based on Elijah Wald’s book Dylan Goes Electric.
The film has already received critical acclaim, with NME calling it a “mad idea, but a good one.” Former President Barack Obama even listed it as one of his favorite films of 2024.
In addition to the film, Levi’s has launched a clothing line inspired by Chalamet’s portrayal of Dylan, featuring outfits modeled after the singer’s iconic 1960s style.
Fans can mark their calendars for January 10 to relive Dylan’s legacy and prepare for A Complete Unknown.
