The Artemis II crew will be completely cut off from Earth for around 40 minutes today as they pass behind the Moon.
The four astronauts – Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen – are expected to begin their journey behind the lunar surface at around 5:47pm EST (10:47pm BST) today, April 6.
At that point, the Moon will block all signals between the Orion capsule and mission control, leaving the crew entirely on their own.
This marks the first time humans have ventured to the Moon in over 50 years, and will set the record for the furthest humans have ever travelled from Earth.
Netflix is live streaming the flyby from 6pm EST (11pm BST), so viewers can watch the crew’s approach to the Moon before they disappear behind it.
NASA is also running a separate 24/7 YouTube live stream showing uninterrupted exterior camera footage of the Orion capsule throughout its journey.
The crew launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida last Wednesday and are due to splash down in the Pacific Ocean on Friday, April 10, completing the 10-day mission.
