Apple Offers Rare Discounts on iPhones Amid Growing Competition from Huawei

Apple is offering discounts of up to 500 yuan ($68.50) on its latest iPhone models in China, as part of a four-day promotion running from January 4-7.

The discounts aim to defend Apple’s market share against fierce competition from local brands like Huawei.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, priced at 7,999 yuan and 9,999 yuan respectively, will see the largest discount of 500 yuan.

Other models, such as the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, will receive a 400 yuan reduction. The offer applies to several iPhone models when purchased using specific payment methods like WeChat Pay or Alipay.

This move comes as Apple faces growing competition in China, the world’s largest smartphone market.

Huawei has been a strong competitor since its return to the premium segment in August 2023, with Huawei’s sales rising 42% in the third quarter of 2024. In contrast, Apple’s sales in China slipped 0.3% during the same period.

The promotion also includes discounts on older iPhone models, MacBook laptops, and iPad tablets, as consumers in China remain cautious with spending amid economic challenges.
