Apple Music Adds Playlist Transfer Tool to Rival Spotify

Apple Music Transfer Tool

Apple Music has launched a new feature that lets users transfer playlists and music libraries from other streaming services, including Spotify.

The tool is now available in the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, and Mexico, after a beta test earlier this year in Australia and New Zealand.

Users can access the feature across iPhone, iPad, Android, and web browsers. On iPhone or iPad, it is found under Settings > Apps > Music > Transfer Music from Other Music Services.

On Android, users can open the Apple Music app, tap More > Settings, and select the transfer option. After signing in to their existing streaming account, they can choose playlists or songs to import into Apple Music.

The system is powered by SongShift, a third-party service that matches tracks with Apple Music’s catalog. If an exact match is not found, users have 30 days to review and select alternatives. Only playlists created by users can be moved, not platform-generated lists.

The rollout comes as some artists, including King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Deerhoof, have withdrawn music from Spotify in protest against the company’s ties to AI military investments. Apple Music’s update could make it easier for listeners considering a switch to preserve their curated collections.
