Legendary director George Miller, who turns 80 on Monday, has teased that another Mad Max movie could be in the works, but fans shouldn’t get their hopes up just yet.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Miller revealed that there is a script ready for another entry in the Mad Max franchise, but making it isn’t his immediate priority.
While Miller did not confirm whether the script is for a sequel to Fury Road or another origin story like Furiosa, he did share that he has many stories in the works. However, he made it clear that he has other projects he’s eager to pursue first.
“We’ve got another script,” Miller said. “But having been doing this long enough where I’m habituated to storytelling, I find myself with way too many stories — not only in my head, but in the form of screenplays or at least very detailed notes that are within reach of screenplays.”
Despite this, Miller isn’t rushing into the next Mad Max installment, as he’s already set his sights on two other films he hopes to make first. Fans will have to wait and see if the “planets align” for another Mad Max film to come to fruition.
With Fury Road widely regarded as one of the best action films of all time, and Furiosa gaining a loyal following, the anticipation for more Mad Max stories remains high. However, Miller’s commitment to other projects suggests that the next film in the franchise may not be coming anytime soon.
