iOS 19 To Support All iPhones, But Not All iPads

According to a report from iPhoneSoft, Apple’s next major operating system updates, iOS 19 and iPadOS 19, will support every iPhone model that currently runs iOS 18.

This means iPhones as old as the iPhone XS and XR, released in 2018, will continue to receive updates. However, not all iPads will be able to update to iPadOS 19.

The A10-powered iPad (7th generation), released in 2019, will not be eligible for the iPadOS 19 update. This will raise the minimum processor requirement for iPads to the A12 chip.

Fortunately, most iPad owners will still receive updates, ensuring another year of free software updates with new features.

iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 are expected to be previewed in June 2025 for developers, with a public release around September 2025. Both updates will remain current until September 2026.

While it’s unclear what features iOS 19 will include, there are suggestions that the update may be smaller in scope, due to delays in the development of iOS 18 features.

Some of the new features promised for iOS 18, such as AI-driven Priority Notifications and Siri improvements, have yet to appear.

As Apple continues to work on AI-driven features, there may be a hardware cutoff for devices that support these technologies, potentially limiting the update to newer devices.
