OpenAI May Challenge Google with New Web Browser

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is exploring the development of a web browser that would work with its AI chatbot technology, according to a report from The Information.

The artificial intelligence company has reportedly discussed search features with several major websites and companies, including:

  • Conde Nast
  • Redfin
  • Eventbrite
  • Priceline

This move could put OpenAI in direct competition with Google, which currently dominates both the browser and search markets. OpenAI has already entered the search market with its SearchGPT product.

The timing is notable as Google faces legal pressure to sell its Chrome browser due to monopoly concerns. Meanwhile, Google has been working to compete with OpenAI in AI technology, launching its own chatbot called Gemini last year.

OpenAI has also reportedly discussed powering AI features on Samsung devices, a significant Google partner. The company already works with Apple on AI features for their devices.

However, sources indicate that an OpenAI browser launch is not imminent.
