Google Pixel & Android Phones Get Screen Time Reminders

Android Screen Time Reminders

Google has introduced a new feature called Screen Time Reminders to help Android users manage their time better. Part of the Digital Wellbeing suite, this feature is now available on Pixel devices and many other Android phones.

What Does It Do?

Screen Time Reminders show an on-screen pop-up when you’ve spent a significant amount of time in a single app. The aim is to help users avoid getting overly absorbed or distracted by apps like social media.

Unlike app time limits, which stop you from using an app after a set time, these reminders are more subtle and occasional. For example, users have reported receiving reminders after 15–25 minutes of app usage.

How It Works

  • Default Setting: The feature is turned off by default.
  • Pop-Up Notification: A small reminder appears at the top of the screen after you spend a considerable amount of time in an app.
  • Customisation: By default, the reminders apply to all apps. However, you can disable reminders for specific apps, such as video players or games.

To turn off reminders for an app, simply tap the pop-up notification and adjust the settings.

Availability

The feature is rolling out across various Android devices, including Pixel, OnePlus, Oppo, and Nothing phones. However, Samsung’s Digital Wellbeing suite does not yet include this option.

Google hopes this tool will help users maintain healthier digital habits by reducing screen time and avoiding doomscrolling.
