Star Wars Announces New Movie Trilogy

Lucasfilm is returning to episodic Star Wars films with a new trilogy reportedly set to be Episodes 10-12. Since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars content has been limited to TV shows on Disney+, with hits like The Mandalorian but some disappointments, including The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Deadline reports that Simon Kinberg, known for X-Men, will develop and write the new trilogy. While it’s rumored to be part of the Skywalker Saga, some insiders, like The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit, suggest the trilogy may not continue the saga but take the story in a new direction. Familiar characters could appear, but Kinberg’s first film may not be Episode 10.

Kinberg has experience with Star Wars, having co-created Star Wars: Rebels and worked on The Force Awakens. Despite past shifts away from planned trilogies, Lucasfilm is pushing ahead with this project.

The only confirmed Star Wars film currently scheduled is The Mandalorian & Grogu on May 22, 2026, followed by a Jedi origin movie directed by James Mangold and a future film with Daisy Ridley.

While excitement for the new trilogy is cautious, given the history of delays and abandoned projects, it’s unclear when this trilogy will hit theaters. The new Star Wars film, Skeleton Crew, will premiere on Disney+ on December 3.
