YouTube Creators Can Now A/B Test Video Titles Like Thumbnails

YouTube has introduced a new tool that allows content creators to test different video titles to see which ones perform best with audiences.

The feature, called “Test & compare,” works through YouTube Studio and lets creators experiment with multiple title options for a single video. YouTube will then show different versions to different viewers and measure which title attracts more clicks.

This follows a similar pattern to YouTube’s thumbnail testing feature, which was rolled out in 2023 and became widely available to all creators in 2024. With thumbnail testing, creators can upload up to three different preview images and compare their performance.

The title testing feature is currently being offered to only a small percentage of creators, with plans to expand access over time. YouTube has not provided detailed information about how many title variations creators can test or how long the testing period will last.

For viewers, this means they may see different titles for the same video depending on which version they are shown during the testing phase. The feature aims to help creators optimise their content to reach larger audiences.

Both thumbnail and title testing have been long-requested features that creators have been asking for over several years. These tools are part of YouTube’s broader effort to provide creators with better ways to understand and improve their content performance.

YouTube serves different purposes for different users – entertainment and learning for viewers, and a business opportunity for creators. The platform continues to add new features to enhance the experience for both groups.
