Wilson Bethel, known for his role as Bullseye in Netflix’s Daredevil, recently shared how close he came to landing the role of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During a Fan Expo event, Bethel opened up about his experience auditioning for the iconic superhero, revealing that he even tried on the Captain America suit for a screen test before Chris Evans was ultimately cast.
Bethel recalled how he felt the role was within his grasp. “There were all these things that were happening that made me feel like I was getting the part,” he said, describing the excitement of trying on the suit.
However, the good news quickly turned to disappointment when he received the call from his agent, informing him that Chris Evans had been offered the role instead.
Evans was cast as Steve Rogers/Captain America in March 2010 and made his MCU debut in Captain America: The First Avenger the following year. Bethel, on the other hand, would go on to join the Marvel universe in 2015, playing the villainous Bullseye in Daredevil Season 3.
Though Bethel never officially wore the Bullseye costume in the Netflix series, set photos from the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again have confirmed that he will don a more comics-accurate outfit in the Disney+ revival. Bethel is among several Daredevil stars returning for the series, which will continue the story of Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and his allies.
Daredevil: Born Again marks the first Netflix Marvel series to be revived under Marvel Studios. Initially planned as a continuation of the Netflix series, the show was reworked into a true sequel after a creative overhaul in late 2023.
The revival will be part of the MCU canon, following the events of the original Daredevil series and introducing new dynamics to the story.
Bethel’s return as Bullseye is just one of many exciting aspects of Born Again, which will also feature Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and other familiar faces. The series is set to premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025.
