Why Siri Still Looks the Same Even After iOS 18.2 Update

After upgrading to iOS 18.2, many iPhone users were excited to see the new Siri animation, which was supposed to fill the screen with a glowing spectrum of colors.

However, many were disappointed to find that Siri still looked the same, with the usual animated orb at the bottom of the screen.

Here’s why:

Your iPhone Might Not Support Apple Intelligence

The new Siri animation and other features powered by Apple Intelligence, like writing tools, notification summaries, and the Clean Up feature in Photos, are only available on certain iPhone models.

To run Apple Intelligence, your device needs to have the right hardware.

The following models support Apple Intelligence:

  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max

Apple Intelligence also works on Macs and iPads with M-series processors, as well as the latest iPad Mini (with the A17 Pro chip).

If you have one of these devices, you’ll see the new glowing effect when you activate Siri. On Macs, the Siri search field gets the glowing effect instead of the whole screen.

You Might Be on the Apple Intelligence Waitlist

Even if you have a supported device, Apple Intelligence is still in beta. Apple is granting access in waves, so you may be on a waitlist.

To get the new Siri effect, go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and tap “Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist.” Once you’re granted access, the new animation will appear.

Some users report getting access within hours, but the wait time may vary.
