WhatsApp Tests ‘Plus’ Subscription With New Premium Features

WhatsApp is testing a new optional subscription plan called “WhatsApp Plus”, aimed at users who want more customization and extra features within the app.

The plan is currently rolling out to a limited number of users on Android. It is available in recent beta versions, with a wider release expected in the coming weeks.

WhatsApp said the subscription will not affect its core services. Messaging, voice calls and end-to-end encryption will remain free and unchanged for all users.

The premium plan focuses on personalization. Subscribers can access exclusive sticker packs, some of which include animated effects that appear on the chat screen.

Users can also customise the look of the app. The plan offers multiple theme colours and a selection of alternative app icons, allowing users to change how WhatsApp appears on their device.

Another feature allows users to pin up to 20 chats at the top of their inbox. This expands the current limit and is designed to help users manage more conversations.

Subscribers will also get access to additional ringtones and the ability to apply settings across multiple chats at once. These tools aim to improve organisation and ease of use.

Pricing varies by region, but early tests suggest a low monthly fee. The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled, and some users may be offered a free trial.

WhatsApp said it may add more features to the plan in future updates, depending on user feedback.
