WhatsApp is testing a new feature in its latest Android beta that allows users to mention group chats in status updates. This expansion follows a previous update enabling individual contact mentions.
When a group chat is mentioned in a status update, all group members will receive a notification, except those who have muted the group. The mentioned group will also get a message about the status update.
Unlike individual contact mentions, which have a five-contact limit, group mentions can notify entire chat groups simultaneously. Status updates mentioning a group will automatically become visible to all group members, regardless of existing privacy settings.
The feature is currently in beta testing, and additional details about potential limits or restrictions will become clearer as the update approaches full release.
